Being a Huge Hip-Hop Head!! My favorite Era of Hip-Hop has to be the 90's. Man! The 90's were a wild decade and a fun time, over all to grow up in. I was a Freshmen in H.S. 1994. So the 80's/90's really raised me. Hip-Hop culture has always been the trendsetter of fashion, and the 90's had a hit or miss, type of styles for that time frame. Fashion and hip-hop are linked together like the Fourth of July and hot dog-eating contests. And while some legendary rappers put their stamp on timeless trends

1. Cross Colours

Carl Jones and T.J. Walker (the creators of C.C.) initially wanted to create "clothing without prejudice" to boost social awareness when the duo spawned Cross Colours in the early '90s. At a time when teenage runaways, AIDS, and racial discrimination was clearly evident, the South Central based brand become the beacon of aspiration. Arsenio Hall, Kriss Kross and even the characters on A Different World rocked and supported the brand to "educate and elevate." Cross Colours were hugely influential in the 90's, but would fade away due to a surge of competing brands.Yo! Would You start rockin some C.C. today???

2. Backward Clothing

Sadly, we recently lost Chris Kelly, one-half of the teen hip-hop duo Kris Kross. While revolutionizing seventh-grade dances in the early ’90s, Kris Kross also paved the way for kids everywhere to wear their clothes backwards and panic like a lost dog when they had to go to the bathroom. Yo! Would you start rockin your clothes on Backwards today??!!!! lol

3. Baggy Pants

MC hammer pants.jpg

MC Hammer ushered in the ’90s with pants so baggy, it looked like he’d deployed a parachute. Seriously, guys wore this s*** while attempting to pick up girls. How far we’ve come…I must admit, I had a few pairs of these. No lie, my moms used to sew and make me and my cousin's our own custom 'Hammer pants' She'd prob. could had went into the MC Hammer pant making industry, sheesh, thank GOD she didn't, but I can do the type-writer with the best of'em, lol

4. Starter Jackets

Starter-jackets-TUMBLR-DOTCOM.jpg

Starter jackets are jackets made by the Starter Clothing Line that were a fad in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Starter jackets were typically designed to show allegiance to a particular professional or college sports team, and prominently featured both the team's logo and colors. The most popular versions were in a pullover style. There were widespread robberies and some homies lost their lives over some of these jackets as they became a larger status symbol that were well covered by the media.

Cheaper Starter brand products included the Starter Cap and the Starter Hoodie, and were also similarly designed for a particular team. These too were a fad in the early 1990s popularized by Hip-Hop artists. Growing up, where I was from, The Starter jackets also represented, which Gang or turf you were from. I saw a lot of these Starter jackets growing up..

Hmmmmm Never Got Down with this Looney Toon style. I mean I dug Looney Toons cartoons as a kid, but this wasn't me.

6. 8-Ball Jackets

8-Ball jackets were so popular, kids were getting shot for them. We understand the urge to resurrect these jackets with a hint of irony, but we plead with you: DON’T DO IT, MAN! (Not because you’ll get shot…because everybody will be too busy laughing at you to wanna hurt you.)

7. Overalls

Want to nail the look of a farmer with rhythm? Simply throw on a pair of overalls. Bonus points if you click off one of the straps. We still scratch our heads at this easy-come, easy-go fashion trend, but it seemed to sweep through hip-hop strongly enough for even 2Pac to give it a shot.

8. I.O.U Sweaters

I Dunno about you, but I had a few of these sweaters in the closet. This was a Denver thing! You can kop them at 'Mery-Go-Round- or Jeans West at The Villa Italia Mall, 2 for $50. I remember my auntie used to get me a couple, each birthday or Xmas. Had to get fresh for all-night skating, lol.

9. Zecavarichi Jeans

Z-cavarichi , man o man, I think these were Hammer pants undercover, or the skinner version of them. I seen a lot of ladies rockin'em but, dudes, they were kinda suspect. . I think they were popular around 1988, started fading away into the 90's. I remember seeing these pants at Foley's for $150 they were made from black velvet with a paisley pattern crushed into the material, lol Dudes would rock'em! them tucked into black suede boots, the one's that had little belts on them! That and a black shirt with horizontal purple stripes... damn homies thought they were Fly huh!!?

10. BRITISH KNIGHTS

I remember rockin these Back in the 80's, wasn't into them much in the 90's, but me and cousin had the baddest bk casual shoes (not sneakers) in n.y.. We had different colors black, gray, dark blue & CHARCOAL Gray. I WISH THOSE SHOES WERE BACK OUT AGAIN THEY WERE COMFORTABLE AND FRESH. You could also see these kicks on your local CRIP gangbangin in your hood as well, back then. BK also stood for Blood Killa. British Knights footwear was worn by 98% of hip hop and techno artists around the 80's and 90's. haahhahaha they were always one of the complimentary prizes on, like, Double Dare.
