With a amazing voice and a True MC, my home girl don't play with those words! Once we connected and cyphered in '99, We have been good friends ever since. The lyrical talents of Johnathan RaSean Hawkins (aka Rasean Douja) are a direct result and reflection from his life experiences growing up near the city skirts of Denver, Colorado. His imagination, as a child, would often lead him far away from the apartment building in which he and his family stayed. Most of his early years were spent moving from place to place until finally his mom and dad settled in north eastern Denver, a low-middle class environment known as Montbello. By fifth grade his innocence rapidly began to fade as he began to discover the characteristics that followed his community: gangs, homicides, drugs, and racism. Through all the negative aspects, Johnathan found light in Hip-Hop. He began to listen to artist such as Jay-Z and Common, relating to poetry that they portrayed in their rhymes. By middle school, he had his mind set on being one of the greatest rappers of all time. Years went by as he worked on perfecting his rhymes, struggling to find who he actually was. It wasn’t until the first time he heard 'What They Do', by The Roots, that he decided to stay true, declaring that he would make music that truly reflected who he was. After high school, Johnathan put most of his effort and energy into his music career while also going to college on the side where he is currently studying theology and philosophy. Every week, he and his group (Burb-N-Hitez) perform all over the city with dreams of achieving their life long goals. If you don't know about The Procusions, you had to be ZzZzZZz for the past decade! The Awesome Trio that started off with Res-Mr. Jay-Stro Tha 89th Key- formed Colorado Springs, now rooted in L.A. I met way back in 1998 going back and forth battling and cyphering at The Party Zone in Colorado Springs. Mr. J. was always the wild one, with words always poppin off like a rocket, with Consciousness and a DOPE voice and deliverly, that stood out. Res was the creative, designing mind of the camp. Super nice with the lyrics, played a vital role of the creation of Basementalism Radio 1190 Station in Boulder, C.O.. Stro the 89th Key is the manifesto soulful, gritty producer of the crew. With words and styles upon piles as a MC, You can feel the passion begind his production and art. I have been blessed to be able to rock over a ouple of his beats.The Procussions ran amuck in the underground scene for a decade, and made some amazing music. They were once signed to Rawkus Records and traveled with some Hip-Hop All Stars. We were also label mates as well, as both of our projects were distributed through Basementalism Records. CALM, a hip hop group straight outta Dirty Laboratory Productions from Denver,Colorado. It consists of Time and AwareNess. The duo's first studio album, Anti-Smiles, was released in 2006. Both of these Hip-Hop heads have been steadying growing, blazing DOPE Music for more then a decade in the Colorado Hip-Hop scene & they heavy at it. Lurking in the underground, they always give you a different heighten sense of Time and Awareness with their music. "Although Anti-Smiles reflects the dark side of our collective psyche, it's also a statement of hope in the face of fear and self-doubt." I met this little homie years back in 2009 at The 420 Bros studio. He called himself CriMsen, he was bustin over a J-Dilla beat, you can see it in his eye's he had the love for the rhyme, it's really cool to hear and see the lil homie gettin his shine years after with his crew. Formed in early 2012, High Five is a unique Denver based Hip Hop collective that finds it's roots and inspiration in the break beats and rhyme styling of Hip Hop's golden era. B Rex, Guidence, Question, and CriMseN provide the lyrics, while D.H. Lawrence and Just Say PLZ share production duties. From the funky loops and dusty samples to the fun loving and often thought provoking rhymes, the movement to bring real Hip Hop to the Mile High City is known as High Five!
